We Lost a Member of Our Family Yesterday

We lost a family member.

My mother's dog Chauncey, died yesterday. He died during the night beside her bed, guarding her as she slept, like he had every night for 12 years.

The very same day, the little female dog above was abandoned to the animal shelter by an elderly lady, who could no longer care for her due to illness. We learned of this sweet little puppy and have adopted it. She has already taken to my mother, and is helping mend her broken heart.

We'll miss Chauncey, and nothing can replace his place in my mother's life. Somehow I think Chauncey would be happy that my mother has someone protecting her each night.
