Animal Shelter

God Bless the good people that volunteer their time to the Animal Shelter here in my area. They spend their days at the entrance to our local mall, with several dogs that need a home. The dogs are kept in individual cages and they look so pitiful. They are starved for attention and human contact.

I'm sure that there are legitimate cases where emergencies arise in which people can no longer keep their pet. On the other hand, I'm told that there are many cases where people simply "turn in" their dogs to the animal shelter, because they can't be inconvenienced to care for them any longer.

That's hard to imagine.

Interesting Perspective

Interesting Quote:

If a dog doesn't put you first where are you both? In what relation?

A dog needs God. It lives by your glances, your wishes. It even shares your humor.

This happens about the fifth year. If it doesn't happen you are only keeping an animal.

I'm ready for Halloween. Don't I look like an Angel?

I Slept in Today

I slept in this morning.

It was raining. The blinds were down. The room was cool, dark and quiet. Ideal conditions for being lazy.

As I drifted out of my dream state, I became aware that someone else was in the bedroom.

I rolled over and adjusted my pillow, and I heard Luke's collar jingle as he raised his head to see over the edge of the bed.

He'd been laying there all night waiting patiently for me to wake up, and standing guard while I slept.

Man's best friend.

My best friend.

Lukeday

Lukeday

I'm having a cup of hot coffee now and my pal is laying beside me here. Words can't describe what a blessing this animal is.

Because of my work schedule, I work a lot of weekends, so when possible I try to take time off on Wednesdays. Or as we call it, Lukeday.

We're waiting to see what the weather holds, but regardless of whether or not it rains, we'll have fun. We'll go for a walk, chase the tennis ball, have some snacks, and play with some stuffed toys. Sometime during the day, I'll give my buddy a good rub down and brushing. I'll make sure he also gets some time to sleep, because us old men need our naps.

Fall is here and winter is right around the corner, so we have to make the best of time outside.

"Someone" is snoring now.
